Crew: Roger Bignell (The blind leading the blind),

Trevor Postel (Navigator first class)

and Paul Johnson (An outfit to suit any occasion).

General forecast. S.W 5 to 6 veering N.W. 5
Log:

7th September 1030 am

Picked up by Jim and then to R. Perrins to collect Trevor. Bollicking for being late. Exchanged pleasantries them off to School Lane Hamble.
Quick journey down then a big shop at Tescos. £130. Skipper pulled at checkout!!
Lunch in Tescos agreeing that the further south you went the bigger the girls got.

1430
Arrived Hamble met Doug Hamilton. P.J. sent text confirming his imminent arrival at a Marina on the south coast not necessarily the right one! Loaded “Aeolus” and did takeover.

1730
Slipped with no idea of where the starboard kick on the Rassey would take me. Missed everything and proceeded down the Hamble.
Hoisted full sail wind about a 4 from the S.W. wind indicator showing 21 knots?
Beat to the Island then engine on. Checked Yarmouth for a berth.

1930
Arrived Yarmouth. Noticed lifeboat and a very big Sunseeker jilling around at entrance to harbour.
Moored on walk ashore pontoon and discovered Sunseeker had embarrassingly run out of fuel and was being towed in to the fuel pontoon. £700 refill.

2030
Meal in the Kings Head, served by a well endowed maid who shortened the life expectancy of the crew by 5 years bending down beneath the counter. This prompted long “If only” conversations.

2300
Decided against Channel crossing as contrary wind and interesting lows threatening.

Food for the day: Pie and chips, cereal and toast, sundry nibbles, meat and potatoes.

Monday 8th September

0730
Full cholesterol breakfast to assist P.J. with his diet.

Weather some cloud but very calm. Decided Poole was the best destination. Tried to sail through The Needles but tide had other ideas. Gentle motor to Poole. Some sun cool wind.

1200
Mary rang for me to speak to BT engineer re phone problem. Recon it’s a problem with my router??? Just don’t believe him but can't do anything from here.

1600
Entered Poole Quay Marina.
ZZZZZ then P.J. doing his culinary stuff.

Drinks in the Kings Head in the forlorn hope that the Yarmouth experience would be repeated. No luck only fat darts players,
Great meal at P.J’s Bistro with two bottles of a fine red wine. Thoughts about carrying on to Weymouth tomorrow.

Food for the day: Full breakfast, corn beef sandwich, crisps, cake, biscuits, apples, cheese, ratatouille chicken, crumble, beer and wine, nuts and olives.

Diet not working Paul?

2225
Bed.

Tuesday 9th September.

0730
Heavy rain and stronger winds in the nigh, still raining. Crew asleep, bless them, that’s about to change!

0830
Crew up and showering.

0930
Full breakfast.

1100
Still raining, Paul took “Aeolus” out. Hoisted sail at end of Poole Channel.

1200
Weather threatening. Three reefs and engine on.

1500
At the Needles. Contacted Lymington for berth. Marinas busy, as it is the Southampton Boat Show.

1545
Moored in heavy rain.

1630
Late lunch and ZZZZZZZZ.

1800
Took wet clothes to be dried in tumble dryer. Paid Marina charges 38 extortionate pounds. Showered and waited for rest. Jim told me I had hit the service box on berthing.

1900
Walked into Lymington and found a supermarket. Drinks at The Kings Head then a good curry.
2255
Bed, following a brandy nightcap.

Food for the day: Full breakfast, chocolate biscuits, soup, corn beef sandwich, crisps, nuts, olives, curry, beer, wine.

Wednesday 10th September

1008
Weather S.W. 2 cloudy with some drizzle.
Fine fat free breakfast prepared by Jim, fat free because Trevor ate most of it with mustard pickle.
Intended passage Portsmouth mooring at Gosport.
Paul clearing Marina toilet of all other occupants by his visit.
Checked and topped up oil. Checked fresh water. Emptied bilges.

1100
Cleared Jack in the Basket and sailed to island then beam to broad reach all the way to Portsmouth.

1500
Tied up Halsar but moved to an into bow wind berth. Fees £30.

1700
Glass of wine then zzzzzzz.

1900
Ferry to Portsmouth drinks in the new dock area. Expensive meal in fish restaurant. Paul met a waiter that had serviced him in the past!!!

2300
Picked up message from Mary that mobile was now not working.

2315
Retired to aft cabin as Jim was experimenting with bio chemicals in the heads designed to kill weeds in your drive.

Food for the day: Full breakfast, pasties, cake, biscuits, nuts, olives, beer, wine, sandwiches, moules, bread, chips, fish.
Thursday 11th September

Woke up a couple of times in the night, as a couple of bears must have been mating in the main cabin.

0645
Awake. Weather, fine rain. Mary rang last night still having problems with phone. Wondering if I will be capable of eating a full breakfast! Probably.
Toast and cereal.

1000
Brisk beat to Cowes

1300
Anchored of island for leisurely lunch. Excellent!

1600
Beat into Cowes. Suddenly hundreds of yachts appeared from the east. They are competing in the Mini British Race? And are all going to berth in Cowes. Decided to go to Hamble.

1700
Moored Hamble Point.

1900
Into Hamble and The Bugle for a pint. George Turpin, Stewart and another turn up they are at the boat show.

2000
Good Italian meal.

2217
Bed, stuffed.

Friday 12th September

Busy night for the heads.

0800
Awaken by James bringing me a welcome cup of coffee; he will make a lovely wife to somebody. Sun shining at last.
Refuelled and motored to Solent to mingle with racing boats. Sun still shining.
Back to mooring for a final grand clear out breakfast.
Cleaned boat and headed for home in pouring rain.
Home 1700.
